President’s Welcome

Dear MVTC Members, It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you to another year of tennis and fun with the Mountain View Tennis Club. We are off to a great start for the New Year with over 150 members already signed up and seven MVTC USTA teams registered for the first 2015 USTA season. We have a full slate of excellent Board members who have great things planned for 2015. We are very close to renewing our contract with the City of Mountain View. To kickoff our activities for the year, the March Team Tennis tournament is planned for Saturday, March 21st and our March General Meeting is planned for Wednesday, March 25th. We are actively encouraging new Mountain View residents to join the Club and existing Mountain View residents to renew their memberships as soon as possible. So, if you have not already renewed your memberships please do so soon. 2015 promises to be a good year for tennis at MVTC. As you know the club is entirely volunteer run and draws its strength from the membership’s contributions. Look forward to your contributions to the club in the coming year. See you on the courts for another fun year. Best Regards, Madan Venugopal

MARCH 2015 TOURNAMENT SIGN UP ON-LINE.

Kick off the MVTC tournament season with this fun TEAM TENNIS event directed by Madan (he’s like Cher we only need his first name) and Carol Tolen. On March 21, 2015 8:30-4:00 pm at Rengstorff Park All levels of play, MVTC members and non-members are welcomed. Earn Grand Prix points for invitational tournament at the end of the year. (See below for more details about Grand Prix) In the Team Tennis format people will be pooled into teams, and then will play multiple rounds against three other teams. The size of the team will depend on the number of people who sign up. Four teams will play six rounds of 6 or 8 games. Each round will consist of a combination of mixed, women and men’s doubles. Captains will be given a worksheet to plan how to assign your players. Captains will rotate partners from round to round, trying to have everyone play with different partners each time. This is an “equal play” event. The size of the team will depend on the number of people who sign up. Each team keeps track of the number of games won and lost. The idea is to get people to play with and against multiple folks. This evens out the team strengths and adds some excitement to the outcome. The winners will get prizes. We will potentially have two sessions AM and PM, based on the number of entries. You can indicate a preference to play in either or both sessions. I promise the food will be YUMMY! I know because I am in charge of food, but I will need a few helpers for light tasks so please volunteer for food when you register. A continental breakfast will be available by ~8:15 AM; lunch will be served from noon to 1 PM; snacks and drinks will be available throughout the tournament. The tournament fee for club members is $10 and for non-members is $12. Again this includes a light breakfast, snacks and lunch as mentioned above. A great deal for some fun tennis and did I mention yummy food? The deadline to sign up is March 17th, but why not register now. Here’s the link MVTC.net Go ahead and put it on your calendar. JUST DO IT! End of the season Grand Prix Invitational Grand Prix Invitational is an additional Team Tennis event meant to reward members and non-members who have participated in MVTC tournaments in 2015 and earned enough Grand Prix Point to qualify. Points are rewarded based on participation (10 points) in events and the team’s final rankings (points varies) for each event. Typically 40 points is enough to qualify someone for the Invitational, so that might translate to participating in 4 tournaments, a semi-final showing or team tennis win.

USTA LEAGUE UPDATE FOR RENGSTORFF TEAMS

We currently have 7 USTA teams out of Rengstorff keeping our USTA coordinator Liz Chambers very busy this season. Fortunately, in terms of tennis we haven't had too many rainouts to re-schedule. Here’s the breakdown, we have 2 mixed teams, 2 4.0 men's teams, 2 3.5 women's teams and 1 4.0 women's team and it looks like as the season is wrapping up we may have as many as 4 teams heading to play off rounds. Let’s go Rengstorff and finish strong!
