Giant Tennis Racket and Ball delight kids at MV Family Parade

An MVTC contingent led by Jeremy Chen walked in this year's MV Family Parade, this past weekend. The group included current MVTC President Madan, MVTC Secretary Jo-Ann, past president George Koo, long time MVTC member Noah Banks, new social chair Myrna, tournament chair Jeremy and his partner Douglas and nephew, Gary Buzzell who has been an active participant at many club events, and one of the newest members Mallika. The USTA Santa Clara representative, Chris Samuel, kindly loaned us a giant Racket and Ball to enliven the parade.

Dressed in snazzy tennis outfits and some carrying their tennis rackets, the MVTC participants carried the MVTC banner with pride and shouted invitations to parade viewers to join MVTC. Noah Banks, forever the fan favorite, at times walked in the front and tossed a rather large tennis ball to Douglas who showcased his superb volley skills with a giant Wilson tennis racket on loan from USTA, to the delight of many viewers. Noah then tossed the giant tennis ball back and forth to many of the kids in the crowd who were fascinated by the giant tennis ball and vied to catch it. A new generation of tennis enthusiasts were thus born.

Post parade the MVTC participants gathered for a festive brew at the Tied House and clearly felt that walking in the parade was a lot of fun and started making plans for next year. Moreover, new member Mallika decided to take on the task of designing a MVTC T-shirt for all members. And we all agreed we'll need more giant rackets and balls.

April Interclub Tournament Summary

It was a beautiful April day when our friends from San Carlos Tennis Club paid us a visit at Rengstorff Park bringing many excellent tennis players and wrestling the Squirrel from our hands with a good game.

It was a tight match from beginning to end with ups and downs and a slight 2-game advantage for MVTC after the first 5 rounds only to finish in a resounding victory for SCTC in the final round.

All in all it was another fun day at Rengstorff. We had long time members who have played many of these tournaments. We had new members who played for their very first time. And everybody appreciated the excellent lunch arranged for us by our new food chair Jill. But we are now ready to get back on court and practice because come October the Squirrel is ours to claim.

If you want to see the Squirrel you can find it on display in the club house at Cuesta Park. This one does not steal your food.
